1. Intex 9.5′ Inflatable Floating Water Mat Review

10Expert Score
The best floating mat for lake

We’ve been on tons of water mats and we’re proud to say that this one is definitely the best!

It’s perfect for anyone who wants to lounge in the water but doesn't like sitting on the hot ground. You can lay out flat and put your legs up or just lean back with your head touching the surface while still being able to chat with your friends. And in case you're wondering, it floats just fine even when two people are lounging on it.

The surface is really soft, so you don't have to worry about feeling all tingly afterwards like you do with some other mats that we've tried before.

The only negative thing we have to say about this mat is that it's really easy to get dirt in between the air chambers. But if you're careful, not a big deal.

Other than that, definitely pick this one up! We're going to be floating on it all summer long!

Frequently Asked Questions about Floating Lake Mats

A floating lake mat is a simple, inflatable floatation device that’s perfect for the beach or boat. They can come with edges and grab handles for more stability, but some even offer integrated cup holders and seats.

Floating mats can be a great way to keep your feet dry in shallow water or help you stay afloat, so you don’t have to hold your head out of the water all day! They are also lightweight enough that it’s an easy way to transport them wherever you go.

Durability: Look at how tightly the seams are stitched. Many floating mats are made from PVC, which is less durable than the heavy-duty vinyl that is typically used for life jackets. We loved that our top pick had a very durable and thick PVC material that felt like it would last for many years.

Size/Shape: The bottom of your float should be not too large or too small, but rather somewhere in between. It should be just enough so that your feet don’t fall through, but it shouldn’t keep you afloat when you have your head out of the water. A good rule of thumb is that it should be at least 3 feet (1 meter) around.

Weight Capacity: Some floats may be more suitable for smaller or lighter people, while others are designed to carry larger bodies. Make sure to check the weight capacity if you’re looking for one for a specific person. Many of our top picks have capacities for a 200-pound person or more!

Additional Features: Buying afloat with integrated cup holders is smart because you don’t have to worry about keeping your drinks, keys, or phones accessible. It can also make a float more comfortable and provide a place for kids to sit.

They are generally simple to inflate and deflate – all you need is a foot pump or an air compressor. Most come with instructions on how much air to put in, but if not, start off doing it slowly and work your way up until it’s firm enough. At that point, kick less air in until you reach the desired level.

Yes! Some are great for pools, pools, or even in the yard. You can also use them to take out on your boat or keep them in your car for quick outings. What if I want to sleep on top of one? It’s possible, but we wouldn’t recommend it. Most are very light, which means that bodyweight could cause the floating mat to sink under you, making it hard to breathe. While it is a possibility, we’d recommend sleeping on a waterbed instead.

There are all sorts of different materials used in these products, but the ones we’d recommend looking for are those made from vinyl or PVC. They tend to be the most durable and provide decent insulation as well. A foam or fabric-based product may not be able to withstand a lot of strain before giving out.
